The Hittite king Suppiluliumas (r.1344-1322) spent the early part of his reign establishing Hittite
dominance in Anatolia, and then in about 1340 sacked Washuka1U1i, Mittani's capital, before sweeping
on into the Levant. Mittani began to crumble and when he launched a second campaign around 1328
(or 1323) the western ha1f of the kingdom fell. Suppiluliumas established a puppet ruler at Washukanni,
intending western Mittani to become a buffer state against Assyria. As such it was a failure, and fell
to the Assyrians by 1300.

15th century , incurred the enmity of Egypt, where a new dynasty had come to power in 1307, eager to
reestablish Egypt's position in the Levant. By 1290 the Egyptians had recovered Canaan, which had
become independent under Akhenaten, and in 1285 pharaoh Ramesses II (r.1290-1224) launched a
major invasion of Hittite territory .The Hittite king The Hittite king Suppiluliumas (r.1344-1322)
